About First Presbyterian Church

First Presbyterian Church in Rosenberg was originally started as John Hus Chapel in a Czech community in 1912.  Worship services were conducted in the Czech language until 1950 when the church hired Rev. Dawson Tunnell, an English-speaking pastor.

The church continued to flourish and grow until the congregation was able to move from the small building on Fourth Street into the new facility on Radio Lane.  Some years later the congregation added a fellowship hall, a large kitchen, restrooms, and more office space and classroom.

In November 2012 the church celebrated its 100 Year Anniversary with a gala celebration.  A memorial Serenity Circle was added to the area outside the sanctuary.  There is a large fountain in the center and benches around the perimeter that provide a pleasant place for rest and remembrance.  The circle contains engraved pavers to remember and honor those past and present members and friends who have kept the faith alive through their dedication and service.

First PC is a community of believers who seek to actively love and serve the Lord in this place.  Worship follows a traditional format, but with some contemporary praise music added in. Children are celebrated in our midst through a "Time for the Children" followed by their own "Children's Church" time.

In 2008, the Rev. Rhonda Detenbeck was called to serve our congregation as a stated temporary supply pastor.  She graduated from San Francisco Theological Seminary in 1995 with a Master of Divinity degree, and she has served a church in Harvey, Louisiana before coming here.  Rhonda is a native of Buffalo, NY, a long time resident of Houston, Texas, and she now lives in the Sharpstown area of Houston.  She is the mother of three wonderful children - two girls and one boy, and the grandmother of 6 grandchildren. (font>
